This is an amazing site for one of my all time favorite children's author/ illustrator, Chris Van Allsburg. The site is fun to play around with, very easy to navigate and shows the essence of Chris' style as an illustrator.

crazy java photo gallery
the site i found today is an awesome example of what you can do with an extended knowledge of javascript ( i think?). it's only a photogallery, and it doesn't appear as though there is more to the website than the gallery, but it is still a really awesome solution to the age old gallery display dilema.

Another Zen moment from Jmarie...
unusual site designed to highlight the work of a performance artist. As you throw the blocks around, if you put certain ones in the circle, it plays the artist's music videos. Some parts are very cool, but others are a little difficult to maneuver through. All in all a cool site.

britanick.com
i came across these guys on youtube and their videos are hilarious! i decided to check out their website and was surprised by its simple set up, but effective means of conveying info. it makes good use of the overflow technique we just learned about too, and has given me some good ideas for my own site

PBR ART
I love Pabst Blue Ribbon Beers, I also love this website! You have to be 21 to explore the site but you can create your own PBR art with a program that has stamps and logos, and you can look in the gallery of all the really cool, creative PBR art that past artists have created. There's everything from paintings, to poetry, to sculptures. Really fun website!

zen and the down load...
http://www.prettyloaded.com/
I also found this website on Communication Arts award winner webpage. It is a site dedicated to archiving all the "loading countdowns" it can find. Although very simple, it is obsessive and crazy zen-like.

crazy graphic novel web site
I found this site on the Communication Arts site for 2010 award winners for web design. The site is meant to sell toys and books related to the Graphic Novel "Scary Girl". There is a game on the site as well that is very cool and really addictive. I love the artwork and think the site is pretty easy to navigate. It's a shame the shop isn't up and running yet, but otherwise very cool.
prime gallery website
the prime gallery is a gallery site i stumbled across while researching for a different art class project. it offers a very simple approach to organizing and displaying a large amount of art. the gallery display is something i like a lot for its simplicity, and i plan on emulating its design. for my sites gallery pages.

Not only do I love the band, their website is pretty neat too. Its very organized, clean, simple, and easy to navigate. I like the background image too, and how it fades into different colors after a few seconds. I think it's a very creative cute website.

Really neat photography here. Easy to navigate, along with a soft cream color to accent the work. Gallery is simple but has thumbnails and next buttons make it easy for the work you want to see available.

This website is really neat. It seems to take a while to load page to page due to the fancy background, but as a whole it looks and functions pretty neat. I do wish they stylized the menu bar a bit more. Definately sweet work worth checking out though.

Teacher Website
I really like the purpose and design of this website. Its a great way for teachers to connect with students better and provide 24/7 access to assignments and different ways to learn the subject. I think it's great that this teacher is using the web to reach out to her students.

I met the artist who makes these sinks, at a home show. His work was just exquisit, and I got to chat with him about it for a while. He handed me his information and I decided to visit his website as a resource for this course where we are building our own artists websites.
His site seemed a little cluttery, and I really did not like the colors. But the work makes it worth while to surf around his page.

Clayton Crain's website
http://www.claytoncrain.com/©/front.html
This is the website for one of my favorite comic book artists; Clayton Crain. He does all his designs in Photoshop (which amazes me). The website was recently redesigned and is easier to navigate and now has a great new page with time lapse videos where you can watch one of his designs being created. He is also planning a tutorial page to teach his photoshop techniques.

Junktion Products
Junktion Products is a company which specializes in recycling ordinary "junk" into awesome sculptural and functional designs. i came across the website from a recent project and really liked how uniquely the website was laid out. The small thumbnail sized images turn into full sized picture after you click on them and also displays information about each piece. it is a unique solution to an overused layout. the problem with the website is because of perhaps the complexity of the layout, the site takes a while to use. in any case it was a neat and interesting foundation for an artists website.

This is a really neat website that has links to oodles of other artists' pages. Pretty straight forward. Lots of scrolling, but overall very helpful. They should really consider putting a menu of the alphabet on the top to see artist of that name letter....

if your hanging out with nothing to do and you feel like checking out a random art site id probably recommend looking at www.12ozprophet.com its just a forum and blog site for art criminals to exchange work and stories.
big budget/ amazing look
I know that absolut is a huge company with an enormous marketing budget, but I think this website is so sophisticated and smooth that it deserved some recognition. Each page is designed with it's own concept and identity. I love the graphic displays and the way the site is navigated.

"Tresserra Collection"
http://www.tresserra.com/inicioUK.html
This is a website designed to display Jaime Tresserra's collection of pieces ranging from billiard tables to custom chairs. I stumbled upon the website not because I knew of Jaime Tresserra, but rather because I was looking for websites with smooth transition, and simplistic elegance which I could use as a model for my own website. This site seems to display all the characteristics I want to see in my own site. Simple colors, seamless transitions, and a unique layout which holds ones attention while not being overly stimulating. In all, this is a website I plan to base my own site off of, without blatantly copying the outline.

I like this site because it was not what I expected. It is a site for a graphic design firm that is written like an esine, but very easy to navigate. The entire site gives you a very descriptive idea of what this firm is about without overt bios or "this is us" type pages. Even their "about" page is a sales pitch. I feel I am drawn to know more about the firm because of this technique (which is most likely the point).

So this website has some pretty entertaining features to it. Make sure you listen to it with sound on because almost all the pages have a voice over recording of Jason Mraz and its funny stuff. I also like that this website is drawn out and that you have the option of silencing his voice.

FLORIDA SCARF
This is one of my friends sisters companies, florida scarf. She hand-makes these really neat scarfs and I really enjoy the scarfs as well as her website! It is very original and fun. It scrolls from right to left instead of up and down which I have rarely seen in websites. It is colorful and I like how the pictures keep changing, you don't need to click on them to see them. The websites photos are very clear and good quality, and the sketches look hand-made as well. I think its a simple and innovative website.

This site is a very basic but effective layout for a website it involves a certain style of skate culture that appeals to some people and gets the skate footage that people are looking for. There isn't really a problem navigating because it simply is just a scrolling options with older post and links. For these guys it seems very effective because many people visit this site.

Stephen Proctor Ceramics

i chose to look for a website which delt specificly with my medium of ceramics. there was a vermont potter whom i acquired a free kin from over the summer. i hadn't gotten the chance to explore his website untill recently, but was impressed with the simplicity and streamline appearance of his website. other websites i found lacked this and seemed to be a little haphazard and thrown together with little thought concerning colors and image placement.

I found this website by searching in google for "abstract art website". I added abstract to hone in on a specific type of art. After a bit of linking, I came to Alicen Harrison's website. Her main screen has a nice welcome picture and colors that are easy on the eyes. Click on the Gallery link and it will take you to some of her work, these are in categories and you can click them to view art pieces of similar theme or time frame. Honestly the webpage is not flashy, but I think that's a good thing, I prefer simple and fast to good looking and flashy.

This site is well organized and has a background that accents his work and mission well. Interesting content, my only negative response would be that his other galleries are father down the page, forcing you to look for them longer than I think is really necessary.

Fantastic photos, clean, organized. Good display for his type of work, not so much of a fan of the manner in which is photos are displayed...

great organization. I really like how if you scroll over the thumbnails it shows a bigger version of that piece. The use of fading was a good touch.

first look at websites
http://www.neilgaiman.com/
While Neil Gaiman is not a visual artist, he is one of the best (and most bizarre) graphic novel and sci-fi writers in the world. His books are notorious for other worldly imagery and thought processes (death, distruction, virtual dream states, etc). I like how his website looks the way his stories are written. It is also very easy to navigate. While he is an adult author, he also writes children's books and has included a website specifically designed for kids in the section called mousecircus.
http://www.juliananeufeld.com/
Juliana Neufeld is a relatively new illustrator. She does interesting work incorporating mixed media, photography and watercolor illustrations. Her website is very indicitive of her work and gives you a feel for her style as soon as you open the page. While it's a little slow, it is very easy to navagate and you are able to access a lot of information from on site journal to client list to portfolio.

Alex Grey
This website is very simple, but I like how the menu bar stays on the left hand side at all times. When your looking at his art there is a pyramid button on the bottom of most pages (when you put your cursor over it an eye appears in the pyramid, which is basically his logo) that allows you to go back to the site if it navigates away because the paintings/drawings are too big for that particular web page. I like the black background because he uses a lot of color for you to see and I think it has good contrast to it. Alex Grey is an amazing artist and I think that his web page could be a little bit more in depth but for a simple website I like it.

Band Website
http://www.switchfoot.com/switchfoot/index.php
This is the website of my favorite band, Switchfoot. Not only do I love their music, but their site is nicely organized and really portrays the mood of the band. It is easy to navigate through the links within the website. There is a main menu displayed across the top, like a frame of it's own, on each page that the links take you to. On the homepage is a flash slide show of their band pictures and a link to learn how you can help out with Haiti. The overal theme of the site has a natural, raw feel to it, which is also present in their style of music. I think it is a good portrayal of the band's persona in addition to being a well developed website.
